Day 2 Tuesday July 16,2013
Well today was supposed to be “kayaking day” and we gave it
a valiant effort. We all piled into
Bob’s truck; dogs included, with the trailer of kayaks on the back. It was a
tad crowded with four of us in the second seat along with Ben the
Rottweiler/Shepherd who weighs about 112 lbs. Somehow Mike always gets the front seat with
the puppy….hmmmm?!
We are smiling because Ben is laying across our feet on the floor...
Mike is smiling because Bruce, the puppy, is so darn cute!
Here is a little tour: You enter through the screen porch (love that!) and to the right is a kitchen and eating area;
Straight ahead is a little sofa, perfect for reading and/or napping :)
You can see how the steps go up to the loft area. Mike and I stayed in the one area and Todd and Jodi were in bunks in the other section. It’s all open to the main room below. Bob and Cherie did a great job adding the staircase and finishing out the upstairs. It’s just perfect!
After lunch the sun started to come out and we decided to try swimming at a nearby beach. Once we got there it was actually really hot; perfect for swimming, but very unusual for this far north. Usually the high temps this time of year hover around 70-75. This week they are calling for mid to upper 80’s. That is unheard of. But, like I said, it was great for swimming. We started out at Bathtub Island and then went to Kathryn’s Cove. Both beautiful with very few people! Lake Superior is always cold, but on a day like today, it was so refreshing and needed.
We were all beat coming home; hot, sticky, buggy, but happy and ready for some dinner. This is the view from across the driveway of the cabin. That is the Montreal River you can see in the distance that flows into Lake Superior which you can see further out. It is one awesome view!
After having hamburgers cooked over the fire and a s'more or two, Mike, Bob and the kids went blueberry picking for pancakes in the morning. Cherie and I stayed back and read our books on the porch (okay, maybe we were dozing off a little as well, but we’re not sayin!)
We decided to go for a drive at dusk to look for those elusive moose. Well, zero moose sightings, however, we did find this awesome sunset!
Never get tired of a sunset! Until tomorrow's adventure....
Journey On,
Cindy
Thanks for the update, Cindy. What an amazing place. Enjoy!!
